Fair random teams in one click

The random team generator is a classroom, gym, and workshop staple. Paste a list of names, pick how many teams you want (2–6), and get balanced randomized groups with color-coded cards. The shuffle is a proper Fisher-Yates — every arrangement is equally likely.

Teachers use it for group projects, PE teachers for pickup games, coaches for practice drills, camp counselors for cabin activities, and workshop hosts for icebreakers. Because it's random, nobody can accuse the organizer of stacking teams.

The tool splits people as evenly as possible: if your name list divides cleanly by the team count, teams are equal; otherwise sizes differ by at most one. Each team gets a distinctive color so people can see their team at a glance on a projector or shared screen.

Need just one winner instead of team assignments? Try the Name Picker. Need to pick who goes first before splitting? The Coin Flip or Wheel of Names handles that in a second.

FAQ

How does it split into teams?+

It shuffles your name list with a Fisher-Yates shuffle, then deals names round-robin into 2–6 teams so each team ends up as equal in size as possible.

Is the split really random?+

Yes — the shuffle is unbiased. Every arrangement of names is equally likely.

Can I make uneven team sizes?+

Currently the tool balances teams automatically (differ by at most one person). For custom sizes, split your list first and run each half separately.

What if I have fewer names than teams?+

You'll need at least as many names as teams. Add more names or reduce the team count.

Can I share the result?+

Screenshot the team cards or copy the names out of the page. Nothing is stored server-side.
